When asked why I stayed in Syracuse for so long despite a well-known inclination towards a faster-pace lifestyle in a bigger urban environment, one of the key drivers I respond with is how nicely I was able to live. Basically, I've wasspoiled in the two residences I had since finishing grad school. In the first of these abodes, I lived in a very large flat above a coffee shop in a quiet city neighborhood for two years.
My first real residence in Syracuse

I had the infrastructure that lent itself to a helluva classy place and wasn't going to waste it. I began to pay more attention to design things and make the home more livable and reflective of my personality. I was able to create themes and even have rooms such as a museum of sports memorabilia and a poker room. I also started to keep fish. I set up three tanks in the dining room. Two fish even had babies! Below are some pics of that residence. In the last one, you'll see the highlight of the tour of the place-the stacks of Papa John's boxes in the kitchen. OK...so everything can't be classy!

Sometime in April 2000, I was informed that the Sedgewick Market was closing and that, when sold, the new owners would have the option of keeping me on as a tenant or going in a different direction with the property. As luck would have it, my good friend David Metraux was graduating from school and staying in the area. We decided to get a place together. After extensive research, I think we found a gem of a townhouse. It's in what would be considered a very urban area of Syracuse and is just outstanding. Tiled floors, skylights, a giant marble bathroom. On top of this, Dave and I are both pretty dedicated to making the place classy and interesting. You'll find lots of nice antiques (often Asian), computers, and classy furniture courtesy of Dave and cool furniture, electronics, and sports and drum memorabilia from me...along with six fish tanks between us. Yes, 6 (including 1 in the marble bathroom). I lived a lifestyle Icouldn't live in just about any other place in the country. Below are some images but they really can't do it justice.
