As you probably already know, playing drums has been a big part of my life. Following are some photos from my time in the section. It's interesting to look at them in this way because it truly shows (at least visually) how much better things got as time went on. These first two pictures are from 1993 and 1994 respectively. Notice the lack of uniformity and overall shoddy look in '93. '94 looks slightly better. I do kinda look like a badass, though.

Yeah, we stunk but we had a good time. The next picture is from a trip to Boston College my sophmore year. Steve Lundberg, Matt Nidek, and I are ready to get down to some serious practicing! In the next picture, I am posing with one of my favorite New York Jets lineman. I'm not sure why my pants are off.

The next two pics are from 1995. The line got much more serious and as a result much smaller. Quality wise, we were very good, though. All four of us were pretty experienced and we worked well together. The first picture is from band camp and the second is from a quad performance.

Performance wise, I think my senior year was the best. We definitely started to have the "look" at this point. Technique was to some degree uniform. We looked like a line that knew what we were doing for the most part. The first picture here is a typical evening rehearsal. The second is from our homecoming parade. Check out the feet! The third is a cool alternating high sticking part from our pre-game cadence. Real fun!

Happily, my final year of performing ended with a great bowl trip. We went to the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. While it was a short trip, we had a great time. The first picture is of a group of drumline players having fun on Beale Street. The second is the snares prior to coming onto the field. Unfortunately, one snare got very sick and could not perform. Luckily, as you can see in the picture, Laquita was there to "fill the hole."

When I was admitted to grad school, I was asked if I'd be interested in teaching the following season since I'd still be in the area. Of course, this was a great opportunity and I jumped at it. I'm still very proud of the product we put out that year. After graduating, I spent two years as a consultant/instructor for the program. The first picture below is from the '97 Fiesta Bowl trip to Phoenix, AZ. The second is a quad warmup from '98.
